The functional state of the leg muscles is not only relevant for performance in sports, but is also of great importance in prevention and rehabilitation. Not only the general strength level is decisive, but also the relationship of individual muscle groups to each other. Among other things, the H-Q rate (strength ratio of ischiocrural (hamstring) to quadriceps muscles) is often used to diagnose possible imbalances.
In this context, however, force measurements are almost exclusively based on force tests in the open kinetic chain. There is hardly any data in the literature on the strength ratio of leg extensor to leg flexor muscles in the closed kinetic chain and little data that directly compare the maximum strength values in the open kinetic chain with the values in the closed kinetic chain. This is surprising, because the force measurement in the closed chain has a higher functionality relevance than the measurement in the open chain. The aim of the current investigation (cross-sectional design) is to determine the maximum force of the leg extensor and leg flexor muscles by isokinetic force measurements on active footballers and untrained persons in the open and closed kinetic chain, to form the respective quotients and to compare the two force measurement methods with respect to maximum force and quotient.
